Every step works with no signal. The upload waits for a bar of service and then goes on its own.

What the crew draws is what is in the ground.

Sheet one is the drawing over the imagery the crew framed on site. Sheet two is the fitting schedule: item, size, manufacturer and lot for every fitting placed.

03 · The field

Why this exists.

Pencil is running out of road.

Crews sketch the as-built on paper, photograph it, and upload the photo to a work order. Cities are refusing hand drawings and asking for CAD-clean output. Real CAD is unusable standing over an open trench.

Every fitting is a federal record.

Manufacturer and lot data for each fitting and every foot of pipe feeds PHMSA Form 7100.1-1 and the operator's distribution integrity management plan. Today it is retyped by hand from barcodes that were already scanned once in the field.

Three sets of hands, one record.

A municipal system, an investor-owned utility, and the contractor working for both all touch the same as-built. One output covers all three, so the drawing that leaves the field is the drawing everyone files.
